Maintaining A Long Distance Relationship In College (Interview)

Hello you all. This is something I haven’t done in a while – an interview! This interview is between a friend & I who is maintaining a 2 (going on 3) year relationship with her boyfriend that attends college in Atlanta. I hope you all enjoy!

What’s your longest relationship?

– 2 years and 5 months

When did you know that you were in love?

– I knew when I could do goofy things around him and tell him my most embarrassing things around him and he could do the same.

When did you get in your first argument and what was it about?

– I honestly don’t remember.

Have you ever questioned if you truly loved this person & why/why not?

– Yes, because in the beginning it felt really childish and the first time we said “I love you” it was out of the blue and I didn’t really know if I meant it. It felt that I was just saying it to say it.

Has social media ever affected your relationship and how do you handle it?

– Hell yes. Back then when I would see a female post on his wall or comment on his pictures, I would always stalk the girl’s page. But now that it doesn’t happen anymore, I don’t do that.

What’s the most immature thing you’ve ever done in a relationship?

– I thought that I caught him cheating with a girl on Facebook and when he texted me trying to explain that he wasn’t cheating, i said “goodnight (insert female’s name)”.

Where do you see your relationship on the next 5 years?

– Us both living together with good jobs and working towards a family.

What’s the biggest challenge that’s faced/or is currently facing your relationship?

– Distance, because we are 6 hours away from each other. All we have is phone calls and face time.

How do you keep the relationship interesting after almost 3 years and dealing with distance?

– Joking. Having a lighter mood than being depressed about the situation all the time. We constantly think about the happy times.

Has there ever been a moment in your relationship where you wanted to throw the towel in and give up? and why/why not?

– Yes, plenty of times; because I felt like it wasn’t worth it anymore with all the situations we were dealing with.

What made you overcome this feeling?

– When I realized the distance was getting in the way of my thoughts and when we actually talked about it.

Is there any advice you have for people in college/undergrad facing relationship issues due to distance and lack of communication?

– Do not let the distance get in your way unless that person is not putting in any effort to communicate and is not making the effort to make the relationship stronger because of the distance.
